DEMETRIS MAKRYGIANNIS

Advocate - Legal Adviser

LL.B (Hons) Bachelor of Laws, LL.M Master of Laws in Public International Law

Demetris studied law at the University of Southampton, following modules on International Human Rights Law and Public International Law, while his dissertation focused on the illegal abduction and detention of persons during the "war on terror". He then completed a Master's degree in Public International Law at the University of Nottingham, with a dissertation on the military support of governments during civil wars. 

In between his studies, Demetris worked as a trainee at the European Parliament in Brussels. He completed his legal training in Cyprus and was admitted to the Cypriot Bar in September 2017. Afterwards he worked as an Associate Litigation Advocate at the law firms Dr. K. Chrysostomides & Co. LLC and Argyrou & Konstantinou LLC.

Demetris is experienced in litigation and focuses on Asylum and Immigration Law. He assisted several applicants of international protection to submit their asylum application and complete the asylum process. He has also represented individuals before the Court of International Protection, the Criminal Court and the District Courts. Contract law as well as the careful drafting of legal documents and thorough legal opinions are also part of his interests. 

Demetris is a member of the International Law Association (Cyprus Branch) and the NGO Volunteer Doctors Cyprus, under the auspices of which he acts as a co-coordinator of the charity program "Education for the Stateless" for the benefit of Rohingya refugees in Bangladesh.
